Alladale Wilderness Reserve

Hi lovely follwers,

hope you are all well in these weird times? Hopefully you could adapt a bit to lockdown life? We as a family were actually so lucky to be able to spend our half-term holidays this year in Scotland. Somerset wasn’t restricted regarding travelling, neither was Scotland. So we could take a deep breath before the next lockdown.

This year we started only with two of our children ( aged 11 and 14 ) and our small dog Ylvie. That was actually quite nice, because it is much calmer when you have less people around you :-)))) Don’t get me wrong. Of course we love spending time with our teens, but ( BUT !!!! ) sometimes it is also good to spend time apart from each other, especially in 2020 with all the lockdowns etc.

I don’t want to write pages, just would like to give you a snapshot of inspiration maybe for your next holiday? We have been at Alladale Wilderness Reserve ( www.alladale.com) three years ago while I was doing my Diploma in Interior Design in London. This location is truly magical!!!!! It’s 100 square kilometres of rugged mountains, forests, rivers and lochs in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.

The reserve is offering accommodation in 4 lodges. Just have a look on their very informative website and you can discover all the opportunities . We got an upgrade because they had a cancellation and we spent one week in the amazing lodge “ Eagle’s Crag”. Honestly- this location is stunning !!! It offers beds for 8 persons from the very large windows you have an amazing view into the Alladale Valley.

But what really makes it different is, that you get freshly cooked, organic and homemade food delivered every afternoon including a cake, wrap or similar for afternoon tea and a two course evening meal. That is so, so special, because you are spending your time in absolutely solitude without any other guests while having the advantages of a little bit hotel feel, because you don’t need to cook in the evenings. Brilliant!

We spent the week with walking, cycling, reading, painting, watching the fire in the open fire place, eating, playing chess, building barrages inside the little stream next to the house,…. It is such a peaceful place where you can relax, unwind and connect with nature and each other. Go, check it out, and I promise you you will not be disappointed.

Have you ever been in Scotland? Let me know where you stayed. For now I am wishing you all the best. Keep safe, stay healthy and positiv.
