Decluttering in December
My lovely followers,
Hope you are having a good transition into December 2021? How are you doing?
I am personally feeling quite emotionally and mentally tired at the moment and I know lots of you are feeling the same.
Writing my “ Not-To-Do-List” last week actually felt so good. Have you written yours? ( Have a look at the last blog post if you are not sure what I am talking about ) It gave me more space and more freedom to spend my December in peace and aligned with my needs. For example : I started the current week with a day out in London together with a good friend. We walked a lot through magical and beautifully decorated streets and had time to chat and laugh. It felt so good!
The second thing I love to do in December is to declutter. I know that lots of you are doing that in January when the Christmas tree leaves the house, but for me it definitely feels right to do it in the first week of December.
Going through your cabinets and wardrobes, looking for things you don’t need any more- it can have such a big impact on our mood, our energy and our feelings. During a year a lot of stuff we actually don’t use or need is piling up in our houses. This stuff is taking lots of space and also energy.
So, every year this time I order a small skip and I make three piles in our house:
Things I will give to charity
Things I will keep but put into storage
Things I will throw away
I tend to turn the music up to get into the flow. And then I start. Working together with local charities is super helpful as they often offer to pick things up. Thy will love you for decluttering before Christmas as this now is the time when people need presents, clothes and other useful things.
Don’t stress yourself. Decluttering takes time. You could start with the common areas and then go further to wardrobes, cellar, utility rooms…
Encourage your partners or families to get involved. Together it will feel much easier and more fun.
By the end of the week you will have cleared your space, your home. Everything will have its place, everything is sorted…
It will calm your mind, and definitely make you exhale loudly. And then the house and you will be open for Christmas, open for togetherness and family buzz, and open for everything this December will bring.
So, let’s get started! I invite you to declutter your home the next seven days. And please let me know in the comments how you are getting on.
Wishing you already a relaxing and wonderful weekend.
Warm wishes
Maren
