The Importance of Breathing

My dear followers,

How are you this week? Have you already decorated everything for Christmas, have you written Christmas cards and have you ticked all boxes from your list???

I actually have not !

Our flat conversion is in the final stage. For all my new followers: We are doing a break through from our main house to an attached flat. This flat will be a kind of hideaway for our teenage kids. They will have their own kitchen, own living room and our eldest daughter gets her own room and bath over there as well. There is one small room left for a family gym and I am really looking forward placing my spinning bike there.

Today the builders have done the break through, but unfortunately it took ages and they hit a water pipe as well. So, all in all, not my best day.

And now I am sitting here at my desk on this Thursday afternoon to write the next blog post, because I have promised myself that I will do a post every week now. Normally I prepare it during the week or the week before, but the building work plus Christmas preparation took a lot of time this week and , as you know, I have also the kids here up from the afternoons. And , what I actually feel is that I don’t want to feel stressed about writing blog posts. I don’t want to be under pressure of what people might expect what a blogger should do. It’s the same thing with Christmas cards and presents etc. I love writing cards and thinking of people, but- when I don’t have enough time to do it- I will write less cards and buy less presents.

We all need time to breathe during this festive period! We will never come to that stage that everything is prepared perfectly, thousands of cards have been written and everyone is in a good mood. We need to compromise and I think personally the most important thing during that time is to have time to talk to each other and to be in a good and relaxed mood. The more you put pressure on yourself the higher is the risk of bad vibration inside the family. And I can tell you- nobody wants that.

So, what can help in this time? The following is a rough brainstorm what helps me to enjoy this time:

  • Find a minute, sit down and make a list of things that are absolutely important for you in this time.

  • Ask your family or your friends what is important for them to feel relaxed during the next weeks.

  • If you haven’t time to write long texted Christmas cards- write very short ones, but include an invitation or suggestion for the next Skype sit in together or Zoom hangout.

  • Start your morning a bit earlier than usual and spend the first moments of the day alone with you.

  • Keep it simple: Collect some greenery from your outside walks and drape it over the table or the window sill. Add some candles and put the Christmas music on- that’s it!

  • Do a walk every day at lunch time, when the light is the brightest. During these dark months a daily portion of Vitamin D is so important for our immune system and our mood.

  • Music is so important for my mood and it really is pushing the family vibe. Create a playlist with uplifting songs and you will see that everyone will begin to smile and to move.

  • Do BIG HUGs!!! I mean, this year is crazy with all the restrictions regarding meeting friends and wider family. BUT: we still have our inner circle, our inner bubble ( however you call that). Give everyone a BIG HUG - every day!!!! It makes everyone feel happy, loved and relaxed.

  • Don’t try to please everyone around you. That will drain your energy . Do set priorities who is the most important to you .

  • Breathe- Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths when you feel stressed or overloaded. It will calm you down and brings you back on track.
